“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”
2 Timothy 1:7
The Fear Not series is one that New Life Church of Fayetteville did back in February, but I love it so much and this it is so fitting maybe even more now than the place we were all in back in February and March.
NLC Fay broke it down into a 4 week series covering various fears most people struggle and deal with on the daily. I am only going to share 2 weeks of the series in order to keep this blog from not being too long. Everything is linked down below if you want to listen to the sermons I didn’t mention, or even the ones I do mention! The main thoughts of the passage I will share, but also what I took away from it and my notes will be mixed in!
Fear Of The Future
The fear of the future is putting our faith in our “what if’s”
Fear is learned from life experience
Fear is powerful but paralyzing
Fear is irrational but informative
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears has not been perfected in love.”
1 John 4:18
You are LOVED by God! No matter what. Through the Holy Spirit God promises we are always His and He is always with us! With that we should have no fear of the future because there is no planner like God, and nobody who knows us better than He does!
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”
“Even bad things that happen in our life are used in His plan and don’t deter it from happening”
How refreshing is that? Even when bad things happen God’s plan is still in course! He is still there working and protecting us.
I pray that you can release your fear of the future and rest in the fact that God is in control. He already knows what’s coming, so no need for us to worry. Give it all to God, He can handle it!
Fear of Man
The fear of man is letting other people’s opinion of you dictate your life
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
(Where my people pleasers at? This one I am WITH YOU on. I struggle daily with people pleasing, and slowly am getting better. I am working on a blog series all about it with my experience – so stay tuned)
4 types of people pleasers:
- Doormat – “I’ll do anything for anybody”
If you fall into this category, you let people walk all over you and sometimes your actions aren’t genuine because your’e trying to do something for everyone. Overcommit/Over-spiritualize things
- Chameleon – “I’ll change for everybody”
If you fall into this category, you are hard to stay consistent. There’s a church you, an art you, a sport you, school you and a normal you. There’s a superficial layer, because you feel you need to change based on who you are around.
- Bull – “I’ll never change for anyone”
If you fall into this category, you are too cool for anything. For this one it takes hitting rock bottom in order to wake you up, because you don’t realize being “too cool” is hindering chances and opportunities for you.
- Peacekeeper – “I’ll make everyone happy”
If you fall into this category you are positive positive positive. Which isn’t bad, until you start to avoid confrontation and don’t like to communicate with people when you know the topic could get serious.
What category do you fit into? Think about it and pray about it. Why are you like that? What are the positives of it? What are the negatives?
I am a mixture of a doormat and peacekeeper. I love to make people happy before me, which isn’t a bad thing. However, it becomes bad when it isn’t making me happy at all, I am no longer being genuine, or I am not taking care of myself. I have prayed prayed and prayed about this. Since this sermon I have been working on it and challenging myself to say “no” when I start to overcommit. Definitely a work in progress, but we have to start somewhere!
The two next series that I didn’t mention are Fear of Death and Fear of Failure. These both are so so good too! I definitely recommend clicking down below and listening to them!
